Senior Accountant — AmeriChoice FCU

POSITION:      SENIOR ACCOUNTANT                                            REPORTS TO:           CFO   



Under general supervision, the Senior Accountant is responsible for participating in the establishment and maintenance of an effective system of internal controls over the financial reporting system, preparing accurate and timely reconciliations of general ledger accounts, and managing the accounts payable process.  This position requires the ability to work independently and meet periodic deadlines necessitating the requirement to work expanded hours during key reporting periods.


  1. Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of accounting policies and procedures.
  2. Reconcile general ledger accounts on a recurring/scheduled basis.
  3. Manage the accounts payable process to ensure payments are paid timely and posted accurately including corporate credit cards.
  4. Record, monitor, and reconcile fixed asset additions, dispositions, and retirements.
  5. Manage the prepaid expense process to ensure expenses are appropriately recorded and amortized.
  6. Assist in the development and maintenance of the expected credit loss model (CECL)
  7. Monitor cash balances to ensure transactions processed through bank accounts are recorded in the general ledger appropriately.
  8. Coordinate the record retention process including the maintenance and destruction of proprietary information.
  9. Monitor and process federal tax and backup withholdings to ensure the timely remittance of funds.
  10. Record, monitor, and reconcile investment activity including payments, purchases, and redemptions.
  11. Assist with the preparation, compilation, and filings of the quarterly Call Report.
  12. Assist with the preparation, compilation, and filings of the quarterly Qualifying Collateral Report.
  13. Assist in the preparation and reporting of annual form 1099 MISC and 1099 NEC.
  14. Assist with the compilation and preparation of the annual audited financial statements and related footnote disclosures.
  15. Responsible to understand, monitor and report activity associated with department business objectives to assist the Credit Union’s compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act.
  16. Maintain member confidentiality.
  17. Performs in a professional manner setting the highest possible standard for the Credit Union.


  1. Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
  2. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.


  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  2. Three years experience in a financial institution.
  3. Ability to document processes and procedures to comply with Credit Union requirements.
  4. Ability to read, interpret, and analyze financial reports.
  5. Ability to work independently.
  6. Working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite products.


  1. Thorough knowledge of credit union operations, regulations, accounting, and data processing.
  2. Experience with accounting and/or bookkeeping functions in a financial institution.
  3. Knowledge of Symitar core banking software.
  4. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel PIVOT tables, formulas, and macros.


  • Ability to read and write.

  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels, orally, in writing, or by phone.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently communicate orally, in writing, and by phone.

  • Ability to learn, apply, and communicate knowledge of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Ability to accurately input and retrieve data from computer.
  • Ability to use a calculator.
  • Ability to use and learn office machines (i.e., copier, fax, terminals).
  • Ability to use and apply basic knowledge of accounting principles.


Job requires little physical effort and is basically a desk assignment.  Work creates moderate to heavy stress during certain periods.  Job does not have specific volume and pace of work standards except that the job includes specific deadlines.  Job requires extensive contact with managers, employees, members, outside companies and vendors on a continual basis.  This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, standing, walking, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.
