Credit Unions Continue Congressional Outreach to Advocate for Tax-Exempt Status

Yesterday, CrossState and member credit unions continued their ongoing engagement with Congressional offices, emphasizing the importance of the credit union tax-exempt status. The day began with a meeting with the office of Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-R), where discussions centered on the critical role this status plays in serving members and communities effectively.
Later, President & CEO of TruMark Financial Credit Union, Kelly Botti, and CrossState’s SVP, Government Relations, Christina Mihalik, met with the office of Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick in Washington, D.C. An effort that is part of a broader initiative to engage all Pennsylvania members of the House Ways and Means Committee ahead of the tax reform legislation markup.
Both meetings reinforced key messages about credit unions’ impact, highlighting the value returned to members and communities, the foundational purpose of tax-exemption, and the restrictive regulatory environment in which credit unions operate. These discussions underscored the commitment of credit unions to their mission of serving all members equitably.
A sincere thank you to Belco Community Credit Union, Citadel Credit Union, Lanco FCU, Members 1st FCU, Penlanco FCU, PSECU, TruMark Financial Credit Union, and Wheatland FCU for their active participation and invaluable contributions to this dialogue.
