Get Ready for CrossState Connect Annual Convention
By Inanna Carter, Communications & Media Specialist, CrossState

Each year, CrossState Credit Union Association aims to deliver an unforgettable experience at our biggest event, raising the standard by bringing something new to the table. Following our theme of “reimagine, innovate, and lead,” we’re excited to bring you our most impactful changes to date in 2026!
Held on May 19–21 at Harrah’s Resort & Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, our premier conference has been elevated with a fresh format that puts the control in your hands, allowing you to tailor your experience and better connect with peers. From focused tracks to unique networking opportunities, come explore all that CrossState Connect Annual Convention has to offer!
Learning Tracks for Everyone
Connect 2026 will offer five learning tracks based on the key areas of credit union success: Strategy & Leadership, Advocacy & Foundation, Compliance & Fraud, Membership & Marketing, and Operations & Technology. Each will feature two Education Sessions led by credit union professionals, regulators, and neutral experts and one Solution Lab led by a service provider. Both session types will conclude with a 20-minute hands-on clinic that provides practical takeaways.
This new format will allow attendees to create a path that matches their goals and interests—there is meaningful content for every role within a credit union!
Powerful Keynotes to Spark Inspiration
We’ll also be bringing in three showstopping keynote speakers to innovate with their notable insights.
Day 1 Keynote: Dr. Michelle Rozen, Renowned Behavioral Scientist
Michelle will reveal why only 6% of people consistently complete their goals and how anyone can learn to follow through with confidence.
Day 2 Keynote: Rashaun Williams, Venture Capitalist & Entrepreneur
Based on his experience overcoming adversity, Rashaun will share his five key concepts for becoming financially smarter and self-empowered.
Day 3 Keynote: Jeremy Poincenot, World Blind Golf Champion
Jeremy will deliver a finale on the power of interdependence and the value of suspending judgment while focusing on the good.

A Memorable Evening of Commemoration
May 20 | 6:30–8 p.m.
Awards Night will be a great conclusion to day two of Connect, offering an evening full of socializing and celebration. During the ceremony, we’ll hand out the Lifetime Achievement Awards, which recognize a top leader and volunteer of the credit union movement.
William W. Pratt Executive of the Year
Robert Flanyak, President & CEO, CHROME Federal Credit Union
Robert Flanyak’s 45-year career began in 1981 at CUNA Mutual Group (now TruStage Financial Group), where he implemented home equity products and 401(k) plans the moment they became legal. This led to his promotion in the 90s, making him one of the youngest corporate officers in the company’s history. His journey continued throughout
New Jersey before he joined CHROME Federal Credit Union, and after just two years, he was promoted to his current position. Flanyak defined a legacy by making culture the number one strategic priority, and his emphasis on people has helped him lead the way in the industry for employee engagement.
Calvin H. Jackson Volunteer of the Year
Terry Hessler, Board Chair, Belco Community Credit Union
Terry Hessler started his volunteer services in 2002 as a member of the Supervisory Committee of Belco Community Credit Union, eventually leading to his appointment to the Board of Directors in 2010. Over the years, he has held multiple committee and officer roles, culminating in his election as Board Chair in 2020. His commitment to continuous learning has pushed him to not only pursue his own development but also actively encourage fellow board members to join him, creating a welcoming environment for new volunteers.
Saying Goodbye to the 2025 CU Ambassador
During Awards Night, we’ll also choose our next CU Ambassador. The top three finalists will showcase their projects, which they have spent the past few months implementing and fine-tuning to help their credit unions better serve their members and community. The winner will then be selected by a panel of judges and announced shortly after.
In 2025, Cassie Rhodes of Members 1st Federal Credit Union was chosen for her project “Illuminating Insights: A Knowledge Base Transformation.” For the past year, she has served her duties well by speaking at chapter meetings, writing for previous CU Edge issues, providing updates to the CrossState Board of Directors, and more.
We thank Cassie for a wonderful year full of hard work and positive representation of the movement. We can’t wait to see what she continues to do for the future of credit unions!
“I was incredibly honored to represent CrossState as the 2025 CU Ambassador. The experience filled me with pride, excitement, and gratitude as I worked to help elevate my credit union. I hope my project inspired other credit unions to make a change and streamline their knowledge platforms too! I have truly enjoyed attending Connect the past few years and appreciate the opportunity to grow, learn, and engage with our credit union community.”
– Cassie Rhodes
A Wellness Walk to Energize the Mind

This 2.2-mile stroll will meander along a level, paved trail and offer an array of stunning sights, including sculptures, birds, and observation points of the back bay. Participants will also receive a unique souvenir to commemorate the hourlong activity.
