Greater Reading Reality Fair Committee Holds Financial Reality Fair for Hamburg Students
On March 13, the Greater Reading Reality Fair Committee held a Financial Reality Fair for students at Hamburg High School, in Hamburg, PA. The reality fair hosted 350 students. Thanks to participating credit unions, Bellco FCU, Diamond Credit Union, Discovery FCU, Hidden River Credit Union, Lanco FCU, Members 1st FCU, Riverfront FCU, Sun FCU, United Employees Credit Union (UECU), and Visions FCU.
“We enjoyed hosting this Financial Reality Fair for the juniors and seniors at Hamburg High School,” said Erica Wennell, Product Manager for UECU. “I volunteered at the calculation station and helped the students to add up their expenses. Next, we subtracted that from their net income to find out if they were over or underbudget. Several students said they were surprised at all the monthly expenses that came from living on their own. They said this experience has been eye opening and will help them when they get their first apartment.”
