TruStage Cybersecurity Incident
Last Updated: August 11, 2026
TruStage continues to respond to the recent cybersecurity incident and is working to restore systems and services through a phased recovery process.
TruStage advises credit unions to check for updates in their resource hub regularly, as information may change frequently. Because some credit unions may not receive TruStage emails or may be unable to access its website, CrossState is providing the key available information below.
Current Status
TruStage reports that recovery work is progressing and anticipates that the majority of key processes will be operational by mid-August.
The company has established a clean, isolated technology environment that is separated from systems that were impacted, potentially impacted, or remain under investigation. TruStage is now restoring enterprise technology capabilities in phases, with safety, stability, and security central to each step.
At this time, TruStage states that it is still too early to draw conclusions about the full scope or impact of the incident, including whether data may have been compromised. If TruStage determines that credit union or member data was compromised, the company says it will work directly with affected credit unions and notify them before communicating with members.
TruStage is also working to stabilize essential customer services, including claims reporting and telephone support. The company is now answering thousands of calls through a third-party customer contact center and has begun making some outbound calls.
Recovery Progress by Business Area
Lending
TruStage is developing a process for recurring debt-protection payments on claims that were approved before the outage. Testing began with eight credit unions, and the company plans to expand the process for Debt Protection and Credit Insurance in the coming weeks.
Annuities
TruStage reports that annuity balances and benefits were not affected by the cybersecurity attack. Its annuity resource hub now includes additional forms and temporary processes for customers, including:
- An Application Cancellation Form for pending applications
- A Right to Examine Form for issued contracts
- A printable form to begin certain lifetime-income payments
- An online form to update direct-deposit information for systematic withdrawals
Additional interim processes remain available for certain annuity transactions, including fund transfers, death claims, partial withdrawals, full surrenders, and recurring disbursements.
Retirement Solutions
TruStage reports that retirement-plan assets were not affected by the cybersecurity incident and remain invested during the outage.
An interim process for withdrawals and loans, when permitted by the participant’s plan, is now underway for Defined Contribution, 403(b), and Governmental 457(b) plans that do not use the Choice Group Variable Annuity product.
This interim process does not apply to Defined Benefit, Deferred Compensation, Tax Exempt 457(b), or Choice Group Variable Annuity plans. TruStage has sent eligible plans instructions regarding the temporary process. Participants should follow the instructions provided for their specific plan or contact their plan administrator for assistance.
Quarterly Participant Statements
Participants who elected to receive an electronic statement will instead receive a paper statement for the quarter ending June 30, 2026.
TruStage reports that the statements are being processed and are expected to be mailed during the week of August 10, 2026, and possibly sooner. Participants who previously elected paper statements have already received their statements. Some participants, including those with the Guaranteed Variable Annuity product, may receive a duplicate paper statement.
Payroll Submissions
Payroll files submitted through third-party aggregators such as PayKonnect or Payroll Integrations are continuing to be processed when they are in good order. Payroll providers may continue submitting these files on behalf of plan sponsors as usual.
Processing remains delayed for payroll files that are submitted directly rather than through a third-party aggregator. TruStage is testing an interim solution for Defined Contribution, 403(b), Governmental 457(b), and Tax Exempt 457(b) plans that do not use the Choice Group Variable Annuity product. TruStage expects to provide additional details during the week of August 10, 2026.
Until additional instructions are provided, affected plan sponsors should:
- Continue normal payroll operations, including withholding participant deferrals and loan repayments, unless otherwise directed by legal counsel
- Not submit affected payroll files or contributions to TruStage at this time
- Maintain documentation of payroll-processing dates, when files and contributions were ready to be submitted, and relevant outage communications
- Consult their legal counsel as appropriate regarding their responsibilities during the service-provider outage
TruStage has also shared a Groom Law white paper addressing the additional time available for payroll submissions when a delay is caused by a service provider’s outage.
Auto & Home Insurance
The TruStage Auto & Home Insurance Program remains available for both new sales and servicing. Through TruStage’s relationships with Liberty Mutual and Polly, members continue to have access to quoting, policy servicing, and claims support from more than 40 insurance carriers.
Members receiving Polly-branded direct-mail offers may use the QR code or web address included in the mailing to access a dedicated Polly/TruStage online quoting experience. Other members may continue to receive phone-based support.
Life
TruStage is working to restore basic servicing, including billing and claims, during the first half of August. The company notes that its life platform depends on multiple systems, and some components must be rebuilt before normal operations can safely resume.
