Category 1 NJ, Candidate 1: Richard Garcia | Newark Board of Education Employees Credit Union

Richard is the Chief Executive Officer at Newark Board of Education Employees Credit Union [NBEECU] — a $30 million financial services company headquartered in Newark, NJ.  He has over 30 years of experience and has held a variety of executive positions in the Banking and Credit Union industries.

NBEECU is the financial services partner of the Newark Board of Education and provides financial services and products to the largest educational system in the state of New Jersey. Prior to joining NBEECU, Richard was the Chief Growth Officer for North Jersey FCU, a $200 million asset size financial services company.  He also served for many years in the banking sector at Lakeland Bank, Capital One Bank, and the former Hudson United Bank serving in several executive management positions.

In addition to his contributions to the banking and credit union industries, Richard has been recognized by many organizations for his extraordinary commitment to his community. This has allowed him to serve with distinction on several non-profit and government boards.

Richard is a proud alumnus of William Paterson University where he received his bachelor’s degree and Bergen Community College out of Paramus, New Jersey, where he received his associate’s degree. While his career has taken him around the nation, Richard is proud to call New Jersey home.

Category 2 NJ: Jim Burns | Jersey Shore FCU*

Jim’s career in the financial services industry spans over four decades. He currently serves as President/CEO of Jersey Shore FCU in Northfield, NJ. His working career started in the commercial banking arena, then for a number of years he transitioned to the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. He had the opportunity to gain experience about the credit union industry during years spent working at Mid-Atlantic Corp FCU, which led to Burns’ current position at Jersey Shore FCU.

Jim was elected to the New Jersey Credit Union League Board of Directors and transitioned into the CrossState Board of Directors due to the merger that created CrossState. His years of experience and passion for the credit union industry make him a valuable contributor to the excellent work being done by the CrossState Board of Directors. He hopes to have the opportunity to continue to serve in the role of Director.

Category 3 NJ: Andrew L. Jaeger | Credit Union of New Jersey*

Andy is a 35-year veteran of the credit union industry, having dedicated his entire career to credit unions. For the last 30 years he has served as President/CEO of Credit Union of New Jersey, located in Ewing, NJ, with $419 million in assets.

Jaeger has served on various industry Boards and Councils, currently as Vice Chair of the Crosstate Credit Union Association Board of Directors and Chair of the New Jersey Department of Banking Credit Union Advisory Council. Previously, he served as Chair of the New Jersey Credit Union League Board of Directors, Trenton Chapter President, NJ CULAC Trustee and a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia Credit Union Advisory Council. In the community, he currently is a Director on the SERV Achievement Centers, Inc. Board, a leading non-profit serving the intellectual and developmentally disabled in NJ. Andy also served for many years as a Board Director for the Mercer County Boys and Girls Club.

Prior to working at the Credit Union of New Jersey, Andy worked for the New Jersey Credit Union League. Andy graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Management from West Virginia Wesleyan College and completed CUNA Management School and CUES CEO Institute I, II and III. Andy believes strongly in the mission of credit unions and the good they do for members. Andy actively advocates by participating in legislative activities, in both New Jersey and in Washington, D.C.

Category 1 PA: Wendy Kingsland | Visionary FCU*

For nearly 29 years, Wendy Kingsland has been active in the credit union movement. Since 2011, Kingsland has served as the President/CEO of Visionary FCU in Bridgeville. During her tenure, she has successfully led the credit union management team to implement product changes and membership enhancements resulting in both credit union and lending growth. Further, she has moved the credit union through multiple complex challenges enabling it to become a growing profitable financial institution.

Kingsland is active in the Pittsburgh Chapter of Credit Unions, where she has served as a board member since 1991, and currently serves as the Treasurer. During 2006-2008, she served as Chapter President. She currently serves on the Supervisory Committee of Chrome FCU.  In 1991, she was the Credit Union Youth Ambassador of Pennsylvania, winning the state competition representing the Pittsburgh Chapter.

Prior to becoming CEO, Kingsland was employed by Clearview FCU as Director of Technical Services from 1991-2001. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a major in Finance and a minor in QBA from Robert Morris University. Since 2004, Kingsland has been a co-owner of Rowdy BBQ Take-Out and Catering, Pittsburgh, with her husband.

Category 3 PA, Candidate 1: Rick Stipa | TruMark Financial Credit Union*

In 2001, Richard F. Stipa became TruMark Financial’s Chief Executive Officer. An experienced professional in the financial services field, Stipa has served as a President/CEO since 1992. He graduated from Ursinus College with a bachelor’s degree in Business and Economics and received an MBA from Drexel University.

Stipa is a Director and Board Chair of the CrossState Credit Union Association, a Director and Board Chair for Campaign for Working Families, Inc., and is a member of the Credit Union Advisory Council of the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors.

Previous affiliations include Director of the Pennsylvania Credit Union Foundation; Chair of the Credit Union Advisory Council of the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors; member of the Credit Union National Association Credit Union Legislative Action Council’s Board of Trustees; member of the United Way’s Income Vision Council; member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s Community Depository Institution Council; member of the CrossState Credit Union Association’s Government Affairs Committee and State Advisory Committee; member of the CrossState Credit Union’s iBelong Task Force and Election/Dues Taskforce; member of the Credit Union National Association’s State Subcommittee; member of PSCU’s Strategic Planning Committee; and a member of the Pennsylvania Gubernatorial Transition Team.

Category 3 PA, Candidate 2: Mike Wilson | Members 1st FCU

Mike Wilson serves as the Chief Experience Officer for Members 1st Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. With over $6 billion in assets, nearly half a million members, and almost 60 branch locations across eight counties in Central PA, Mike plays an integral role in ensuring an exceptional member experience on behalf of the entire credit union. Mike provides leadership and direction for the retail, operations, and customer service areas as well as public relations, marketing, digital engagement, community outreach, communications, and financial literacy. He also leads the business development and wealth management teams.

An Army brat who has lived many places, domestically and abroad, Wilson has over a decade of business and advocacy experience. Mike is involved with the business community and is a business owner himself. He is extremely involved in the local communities within Members 1st’s footprint, and, most notably, serves as President of the Members 1st Charitable Foundation. Mike serves on several additional boards, including the CrossState Credit Union Foundation, NAFCU Legislative Committee, Children’s Miracle Network, the National Federation of Independent Business, and several others.

Mike has been recognized for his professional accomplishments with numerous business awards, including Emerging Business Leader of the Year for the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and Capital Region Economic Development Corporation. Mike graduated from Central Pennsylvania College with a Bachelor of Science in Business, and he went on to earn his MBA from Eastern University. Mike lives in the Hershey area with his wife, Amy, and their rescue pug, Edie.
